2012 Brain Art Competition

Hello Everyone!

A lot of you have been contacting us to know what is going on for the 2012 Brain Art Exhibition. Over the next month we are going to be redeveloping and launching our brand spanking new websites. In the meantime the About my Brain blog will be down from today as we prepare for the new year!

You will get an email with the full details for the 2012 Brain Art Competition by the end of January. Entries will be open then, they will close around mid year and the Brain Art Exhibition will happen in October 2012 at Verge Gallery in Sydney.

There are lots of really exciting things coming up, but you will have to wait until we re-launch in 2012 to find out! What we can tell you now is that there are 10 new categories and the theme for next year will be quite….how should we say it… pleasurable! :-)

The competition will be available internationally to artists from 14 – 35 years of age. The aim of this initiative is to give emerging talent an opportunity to promote and be endorsed by the About my Brain brand in order to commercialise their work and reach a wider audience through our global network. Finalist, will be invited to partner with us and receive royalties for every sale made on the products produced with their work.

We look forward to updating you in the New Year and Happy Holidays.

EMOTIONS & NEGOTIATION

Over recent years, academic research has reconsidered the way we think and value emotions.“I think therefore I am”, a statement proposed by French philosopher Rene Descartes, places in people’s minds the idea that thinking and intellect was all that mattered, and that emotions were to be ignored. The latest neuroscience research is proving otherwise. Today, there are more scientists than ever before exploring the make-up of emotions and how they run through our brains and bodies.

DATA VISUALISATION & THE BRAIN

Many of the talks and papers I see on data visualisation start by saying something about how we’re generating and storing more data than we can process. The solution they present is, of course, data visualisation. Data visualisation is definitely a tool for our times, which is great! We now have pre-digested information, complex scientific reports translated into pretty colours and a million different ways of looking at twitter.
